2014 GRO Ladies Day at Stevens Pass recap
GRO Snow Ladies Day Blowing the top off Stevens Pass Resort
Girls Riders Org. Snow (GRO Snow) is a nonprofit grassroots organization with the goal of encouraging, inspiring and educating ladies of all ages and abilities in snow sports. The empowerment and friendships that grow out of this amazing group is incredible. GRO Snow would like to form crews at other mountain resorts to carry this community across the US and even the globe.
The sun was shinning on about 10 inches of new snow as 300 ladies from 2-70 years old attended GRO Snow 4th Annual Ladies Day Feb 1st at Stevens Pass. Ski’s and boards all came together to celebrate and share fun on the mountain. It’s truly about being ON the mountain together not being the best on the mountain.
“Today was the best day of our year!” was said more than once by ladies at the event. The buzz of a community is apparent and growing.
The morning started off with registration, followed by being divided into ability levels; from true beginners, to advanced all mountain and park skiers and snowboarders. The bright pink duct tape that each lady wore helped open conversation between all different groups that happened to be cruising about the mountain. Demo teams from Never Summer and Mervin were there bringing the opportunity to try new gear. Lunch was sponsored by EVO and Zico with snacks by Sahale.
At noon, as peanut butter and jelly were shared , the first raffle ensued, and everyone gathered for the group photo, and the large crowd of ladies with pink duct tape headed back the lifts to take a few more laps prior to the end of day raffle. New friends were made and old friends, moms and daughters, sisters an even some grandmothers were stoked to get some time in together and many winning awesome raffles was just frosting on top.
GRO Snow would like to thank the many volunteers have made such an impact in the community at Stevens Pass. It shows with the amount of anticipation and the huge turnout of ladies that attend GRO Snow Ladies Day at Stevens Pass how much this is doing for the community of females on the mountain.
